This year marks the 30th anniversary of the first recorded official bill in the US Congress acknowledging International Women’s Day in America. The initiative was spearheaded by Beata Poźniak, a Polish immigrant from Gdańsk.

Beata is a Hollywood actress known for her breakout role as Marina Oswald in Oliver Stone’s eight-time Oscar-nominated film “JFK” as well as for playing the first female President of the World in the hit series “Babylon 5”. She received two Earphones Awards for narrating Nobel Prize-winning author Olga Tokarczuk’s “Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead” and also for “The Light in Hidden Places” written by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sharon Cameron. Five times, she was nominated for the prestigious Voice Arts Awards and for performing the work of Nobel Prize-winning poet Wislawa Szymborska. “The Tsar of Love and Techno” was selected as Best Audiobook of the Year by The Washington Post. Beata was the first performer in the thirty-year history of the Mortal Kombat VG franchise to win in the “Best Performance” Category, starring opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. Beata is also a published poet and has directed multi award winning experimental film poems.

Throughout her career, Beata has been a champion of women’s rights and was the driving force behind the International Women’s Day bill sponsored by Congresswoman Maxine Waters. For her efforts, Beata has received official recognitions from past Los Angeles Mayors Richard Riordan and Tom Bradley, Senator Diane Feinstein, and the Mayor of Beverly Hills, Lili Bosse, as well as the White House.

On March 5, 2024, the Kosciuszko Foundation in NYC will host an evening honoring Beata Poźniak for her artistic achievements and efforts that culminated in the US joining the international community in celebrating International Women’s Day, recognizing the tenacity, determination, and leadership of women and girls around the world.

Please join us for the evening with Beata Poźniak as she discusses her role in introducing the bill and her career highlights in Hollywood. The event will also feature performed reading of some of her poetry and the presentation of short video materials. Author, life coach, and nonprofit manager Joy McManigal will moderate the discussion. MORE INFO

Mother of Memory – Mnemosyne – celebrates the many contributions to human rights by women from all over the world. A symbol of International Women’s Day, the work depicts a community of all races of the world in a female form. It evokes the achievements of women in their struggle for peace and equality in the face of discrimination and war.
